Description

A father's rebellious son leaves home. A man discovers treasure hidden in a field.  A woman pesters a judge until he is willing to hear her case. A farmer frets over storing his crop. Drawing from the common experiences of his hearers, Jesus told these and other stories in such riveting fashion that he easily commanded a hearing.  But as this book shows,  he had a higher purpose than merely to captivate his audiences. These parables were designed  to move them from the everyday world  to the eternal world and to present them with this good news: that all who truly receive Jesus as Lord and Saviour will live with him in eternal glory.

"stir the heart"

The importance of understanding these aspects of Jesus' work cannot be exaggerated…this book is still worth reading…accessible to adults and teenagers who are used to Bible teaching. Most of the chapters are about 7 pages in total with a few helpful questions at the end of each chapter...Clear and straightforward in helping us to see profound truths recorded in the Gospels. Gems of original thought and quotations from old and new authors are scattered throughout...Speak loud and clear about the person and work of Christ, sticking directly to the text. God's good news shines out from chapter after chapter, elevating the soul to praise and thank God for His son. Sin is explained, clearly pointing us to our need of God's sufficient grace. There are repeated warnings to turn to Christ. These stir the heart to be more fervent in our evangelism. There are solemn warnings thoughout that had their desired effect upon this reader, spurring me to pray fervently for the lost. Day One already has a formidable reputation as a publishing company and Roger Ellsworth as a minister of the gospel. Evangelicals Now - June 2014 - Stephen Nowak, pastor of Stowmarket Baptist Church
