Description

With eighteen million copies of his books in print in more than fifty languages, John Blanchard was undoubtedly the UK's most popular contemporary defender of the Christian faith. His clear grasp of current issues and his sharp mind and wit, are enhanced by an immaculate ability with words. John's insatiable appetite for work and travel have led him into almost every corner of the United Kingdom and across large swathes of the United States, South Africa and elsewhere, covering over a million miles. Above all, John combines his significant achievements with the passion of an evangelist whose preaching and writing have led thousands to faith in Christ for the glory of God and that is his greatest ambition of all.

Inspiring

This biography is fascinating. We are introduced to the youthful John Blanchard from Guernsey, then we see him as an evacuee in the war in the Western Isles of Scotland & then back to Guernsey. There he began his evangelistic career & we follow him all over the country & ultimately world-wide. We are told that 18 million copies of his writings are in print worldwide. But his life work has been evangelism. His motto is, "As much as I can, as well as I can, for as long as I can". Not that it was all work & no play. He achieved a good golf handicap. He resisted stong pressure to follow Dr Martyn Lloyd Jones at Westiminster Chapel. In later years, forced by ill health to curtail his preaching, he turned to writing. Does God Believe in Atheists? is perhaps his best known work. The Britain in which he started his evangelistic meetings was very different to the one we live in now. No small part of his success must be due, under God, to his ability to adapt to his times and audiences. His quick wit, pleasant manner & capacity for hard work also contributed. Nevertheless it has been primarily a work of the Spirit as the conversions testify. Like all DayOne's 'Travel With' series, it is nicely produced and lavishly illustrated. It all makes interesting reading...it is inspiring. It should get into the hands of young Christians who might catch the vision of a fruitful life as a faithful evangelist for Christ.
